Beauty Is As Beauty Does

Want to listen to this instead? Read or listen below…

The other day I was writing to my guidance (as I do), and I said something about something I am trying to do being “stupid”, and my guidance answered back abruptly:

“stupid is as stupid does.”

.

I had to look that up, I remember it from Forrest Gump but it’s a phrase I have never really understood the meaning of.

.

After I did I understood that it basically means that your actions should be assessed by their impact, and nothing else… by the ripple effect they produce, not by some arbitrary judgement. What one person may call stupid may be something that has massive positive impact in the world, a point which was illustrated in the movie Forrest Gump.

.
Many people judged him as “stupid” everywhere he went, and yet everything he did was blessed by his total presence and acceptance and whole hearted yes to life, and countless lives were touched and changed for the better by that presence.

.
By reminding me of this, my guidance was inviting me to look at all of the prior “stupid” things I have done and tried to do in my life, and to look at where all of that has taken me, and what it has created thus far. It was inviting me to look at the results of such “stupid” leaps and decisions, over the long term.

.

When I did, I saw that all the “stupid” things I’ve tried to do, and have done in my life, no matter whether those individual steps succeeded or failed, have brought me an ever-increasing amount of freedom, abundance and joy in my life. It has brought me to this place of being able to do more of what I love, with more time and freedom (in all ways) than I have ever had before I tried to do those things.

.
It has brought me more love, more creativity, more beauty, more adventures, more money, more choice and opportunity,  more time freedom, more quality of life, and beyond.

.

It has also brought me a lot of struggles, challenges, heartache, fear and moments of hopelessness, doubt and despair. But they were all worth it, because I would have felt such things in life anyway! Whether I’d gone for my dreams or not.

.

They were all worth it because I continue to live a life that is closer and closer to my dreams, and to my most natural and joyful way of being in the world.

.
There is still so much that I am working on creating, so much more I want to do and to experience… so many more dreams I’ve yet to realize, but I know I’m on my way.

.
My guidance was using humor to illustrate how all of the things my mind has called stupid have added up to a BEAUTIFUL LIFE. And a truly more abundant life in every way that I’ve dared to dream it.

.
Not a “perfect” life, not a “all the boxes are checked” life, but one that is more sweet and kind and true to who I am.

.
So I thought I’d take today to remind you the same thing applies to “beauty” — because there is beauty we try to create in our lives that exhausts and overwhelms us, and there is beauty we try to create in our lives that feeds and nourishes us deeply and in all ways.

.

I invite you to take a look at the things you are doing and get curious about how you can invite more of the kind of beauty that feeds and nourishes you deeply, and how you can trust in it more to lead you to where you want to be.

.

We have learned to value ourselves for exhaustion and overwhelm, our subconscious carries them as markers of our productivity and success. But I invite you to ask yourself:

.

What if my productivity and success came as a natural result of doing more of what feeds and nourishes me deeply? What if it could be the effortless result of me being more of who I already am?

.
You don’t have to know the answers to these questions, all you have to do is ASK, and life will show up with the answers as you hold that door open, over time.
