How to Stand Out In The Marketplace

As a business owner and entrepreneur, you’ll get a lot of information thrown at you about how to stand out in the marketplace, and as a branding and design professional for the past 19 years, I have a lot of experience and expertise with that.

But while creating a truly unique brand for your truly unique business is vital, it’s not what I’m actually here to talk about today. The creation of that branding and design is the step you move to AFTER you get total clarity on the 1st step, and that step is discovering and fully owning your unique value.

Because once you clearly see that, and TRULY OWN IT, things will begin to take off like you would not believe.

If that is not happening, it may be because you don’t yet really believe you can do it your own way, you may still be believing on some level that you need to be “like them”- like other businesses or business models you see and admire- that you need to operate like them, compete with them and price like them, and are subsequently keeping your business (and yourself) constricted.

This is a product of scarcity mindset.

The worldview that says there is not enough to go around, and so you must fight to get yours. There is not enough for them to win AND you to win. Scarcity mindset says there has to be a winner and a loser, and that there is a limited and finite amount available in the universe and in order to get your share you’re going to have to struggle HARD.

How exhausting is that? Think for a moment about how much of your mental, emotional and physical energy that is eating up every single day? How much could be going to good and productive things instead of exhaustion and that low-lying energetic drain?

That’s why years ago I made a decision in my business – a decision that I would not compete in the marketplace. Instead, I would CREATE MY OWN marketplace, and call the people who fit that marketplace, in.

Instead of creating a product, service or price point that competed, I would not compete at all. I would create a product, service and price point that worked for me, and that I wanted, and the people who want that too, are the people who fill my marketplace.

This was a simple but PROFOUND shift in my business. It completely ELIMINATED competition.

I built my own model, very different from my industry norms, my own price point, with my own values and preferences and most natural gifts and talents at the center. It wouldn’t work for everyone, but it would work BEAUTIFULLY for the right people. It would work for my ideal clients. And it did!

I now have package options ranging from $3k – $10k a month and work with a very small limited number of clients per calendar year. It brings peace of mind to my clients to have me in their corner for their branding and design needs on the fly, and peace of mind to me to work with a small group of people I love working with.

It makes all of our lives easier, and because of that ease… more EFFECTIVE and more IMPACTFUL, and more aligned with their vision too. It is a win win win. The 3rd win is for my client’s clients, how that then goes on to impact THEM too… to make their lives easier, better and more enriched.

This is the cooperative model. The model that is designed to uplift all, instead of designed to compete for perceived limited resources. There are infinite resources! This is the model where there are billions of marketplaces to suit billions of different and unique needs!

Does my model work for everyone? Most certainly not! But it works for the people who are a match to exactly that. And it all started with me valuing myself and my unique personality and business enough to set that standard and invite people in.

“If you build it, they will come.” – Field of Dreams

Not everything succeeds, but if it is true to your heart, and you stay committed to it, and see it through, they WILL indeed come, you WILL be shown the way, and you will stop merely surviving and start truly THRIVING. And when you do, you’ll pass that gift forward to every life you touch in more ways than you can currently imagine.

Different business models have different things that will work for them, but in EVERY model you can discover and leverage YOUR unique strengths, differences and preferences to deliver the desired results across the board, from your clients to yourself.

So you don’t need to ‘stand out in the marketplace’, you just need to build your OWN marketplace and truly stand in it, and the people who love and want that very kind of thing will start pouring in.

I know you don’t believe it’s as easy as valuing yourself and your strengths in your own way, but it is. It is the first vital step that will set the tone for every step that comes after it, and all of those steps add up to where you MOST want to be. ❤️

You’ve totally got this. 💪
