If you are in business and have been for long, you are likely prone to feeling like you have to have all the answers for your clients, and if you don’t for any reason, you’re a fraud.
Hold the phone!
That is some harsh shit right there, and it’s 100% untrue. After nearly 20 years in business, I can tell you for sure that:
You don’t have to have all the answers.
You just have to have the answers that you actually have.
Why? Because GOOD NEWS!… there’s a WORLD of people out there who have answers you don’t have. And that means there’s a world of resources you can look-up, call-up, reach-out-to or get help from and/or a world of resources you can refer your clients to. Hoorah!
The reason this news is so good is it means you do not have to be a jack-of-all-trades anymore, because often when we’re starting out we ARE jacks-of-all-trades in that we’re doing the job of 12 people just by ourselves. But as you grow your business and income, you’re going to have to stop doing that.
You’re going to have to stop being the jack-of-all-trades and start being the JILL of YOUR TRADE. 😂🙌
Meaning you get to SPECIALIZE, you get to niche down to only the work you love the most, you get to stop feeling like you have to have all the answers, and do all the things, and you get to just be responsible for the answers you DO have, and do the things you love the most and are totally in your zone in.
Scarcity mindset tells us we have to do all the things because there’s not enough to go around, and so if we let anyone else do ANY OF THE THINGS, they might up and run away with ALL THE THINGS!
Scarcity mindset tells us that being the expert on all the things will keep us safe and needed because there’s not enough to go around for everyone, so we need to stay on top of a zero-sum game.
Abundance mindset knows that us not doing all the things, and staying in our zone will only expand the resources and prosperity, and not just for us but for everyone else who benefits from that collaboration.
Abundance mindset knows it is NOT a zero-sum game, there are not limited pieces of a set-in-stone-pie. That money, like life itself, is regenerative and ever-flowing like a river with no visible beginning or end.
A long time ago I learned that it’s okay to say “I don’t know, let me see what I can find out for you.” to a client if I didn’t know the answer, or, “I’m not sure. Let me get back to you on that.” And it was, and is, totally OKAY to do so.
There is no “expert” anywhere in the world that is not simply an expert on the things they are an expert on. 😂
Which means YOU get to be the expert of what YOU feel like an expert on and let the things you feel “just okay” or “totally unsure of” be in some other experts hands. 👏👏👏
Isn’t that fabulous?! Win + Win + Win. (+ win + win + win! to infinity!) because our own ability to stop taking the world on our shoulders = our own ability to connect and expand, and create a culture of cooperation over competition where there is more than enough for all of us to THRIVE.
So what are some “areas of expertise” you might be juggling still but secretly wanting to let go? How will letting those things go free you up? And what might that free you up to do next??
xo,
Sunni
